D, C and I met with David Cohen (http://www.inneractions.org/) one of the people Gwynne recommended. His office is just south of mine, which will be convenient if we keep meeting with him.
D and I were there for a few minutes before C arrived.
We started talking, giving David the background of why we were there, etc.
David asked what preparation / discussion we had before arriving.
I said that I hadn't really said anything other than "show up".
David turned and asked D why he thought he was here.
D: "I guess because I'm smoking weed."
David: "Do you think that's a good reason to need to be here?"
D: "I guess"
Preliminary questions about previous counseling, prior addition / drug use.
I talked about my mom and brothers. C doesn't really have anything on his side.
David and D talked for about 30 minutes, and then we all got together again.
David laid out some of the options, and recommended checking out Peer Services in Evanston. D knew all about that, since he's dropped friends off there (or picked them up) in the past. Boy, that didn't make me feel very good about the place.
David said that he was in recovery (13 years), which might be helpful for D.
Next step is to set up something with Peer Services and then (I guess) regroup.
And keep trying to work this out.
