Timeline - March 21

This weekend D had asked to sleep over at his friend's house in the neighborhood. He has said that he hasn't had any pot since Feb, even though he could have, and he wouldn't have any then. He headed over to Ben's at 9pm Saturday. Around 9:30am on Sunday, I sent D a text to let him know we were going to church early and to meet us there. At 10:15am, I got a text from D: "Please call when available. I'm in a sticky situation. sorry" When I called him, he said he was in Miller, IN and that the train wouldn't run for several hours. I said I would come pick him up. It turned out he was in Gary, Indiana.

According to D, around 12:30am he got a text from an old friend (Nick) from the baseball park (D played Little League until he was 16). Nick used to live in the area but moved to IN a while ago. He was in town and wanted to know if D wanted to meet him. Ben was already asleep so D decided to go hang out with Nick. They drove to Nick's house (in Gary) and stayed up until 6am or so, playing with DJ and music equipment. D said there was drinking at Nick's, but he didn't have any. And no illegal drugs for anyone. D fell asleep around 6 and woke up when I sent him the text. Nick told him how to get to the South Shore train station, but he missed the train by about 5 minutes. The next train wasn't for 3-1/2 hours. This was when he sent me the text.

I find it almost impossible to believe his story (although I'm sure parts of it are true). I need some help in trying to build some foundation (if possible) for honest communication. Or at least advice / direction on how to proceed without it.
